Adam Svec’s Enemy Swimmer

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 @ 7:11 pm

My friend Adam recorded a new solo record a little while ago called Enemy Swimmer and I for one am really diggn’ it. You can usually find him fronting The Glad Version. However, this time he’s primarily acoustic and solo. If it were possible to wear a set of 12 mp3’s out, I think I’ve come daringly close. I was lucky enough to get a copy a day or so after he finished mastering it with my other friend and fellow B-Towner, Tor. However, it didn’t come without a catch, I had to promise that I would give it to as many people as I can. So have at it!

Widget

Saturday, May 24, 2008 @ 1:44 pm

For those of you not lucky enough to meet Widget, I thought I’d post a picture of my buddy from work. He’s actually Brian’s pup. Between bathroom breaks and fighting his rubber dinosaur, Widget finds time to help me with a design or two. Granted it’s hard to see the monitor when he’s sitting on my lap and his head takes up most of the viewable area, I just take his word for it.

Design notes

Monday, May 19, 2008 @ 7:09 pm

Since I’m a designer and all, I wanted to point out a couple of updates to this here blog for your viewing pleasure. First off, thanks to Marcie’s reminder, the posts now show the day and date of each posting.

Secondly, as you can see I’ve tweaked the overall appearance to match that of my portfolio site. Ahhh synergy.

Lastly, I’ve added fancy zoom to the images. SO, from here on out, when I post images, they’ll not only be bigger but you can click on them and they’ll get EVEN BIGGER al la fancy zoom. (If you click carefully, you can actually zoom Gary’s book below…go ahead, give it a click)

Gary Vay-ner-chuk

Monday, May 19, 2008 @ 7:04 pm

101 Wines by Gary Vaynerchuk came in! I’m very excited to get going on his book. As some of you know really dig wine and know a teeny tiny bit about it. What’s cool about Gary’s approach is that he makes wine approachable. The other night, I was at an Italian restaurant with my friend Jenny and not only recognized some of the wines from when Gary tasted them, but remembered what he has said they were like.

I’ll keep ya posted with how the book is as I get going on it.

It’s where you’re going

Thursday, May 15, 2008 @ 5:56 pm

If you’re not, you should definitely check out Gary Vaynerchuk. He does a great video blog about wine called WinelibraryTV. He’s one of those guys who’s just simply an authentically great person doing great things. He just posted a new video talking about how “it’s not what you know or who you know its where you are you going.”

So, I emailed him to thank him for the great video and mentioned my plans for San Francisco. Gary, who reads all of his email by the way, wrote me back and said:

Chris u rock my man I can feel the vibe in this email and I am sure u will go where u want to my man :)!

I don’t normally publish peoples email, but this I just had to pass along. You just can’t but admire him for his great outlook on life. Thanks Gary!

As a complete side note, you may have noticed a small “ad” at the bottom of the right hand column of this very site. That’s a link to his book that I encourage you all to check out. If nothing else, give Winelibrary a peek, it’s great!

The long and winding road

Monday, May 12, 2008 @ 8:27 pm

So, I may have “stretched the truth” a little on the previous post. Turns out there’s a couple minor stops prior to my arrival in San Francisco. Such as updating my LinkedIn profile along with a few finishing touches to the resume and cover letter. The only thing that’s left is to push the portfolio site live. Tomorrow, I believe, will be the perfect day for such an occasion. I’ll letcha know when it’s live.

Goodnight internets.

Success

I just finished my resume and cover letter. Next stop San Francisco!

Working for…during the weekend

Saturday, May 10, 2008 @ 2:50 pm

Still churning away on my portfolio of which my good friend and co-worker Dustin is graciously building for me.

However, I did manage to pick up a copy of Mario Kart last night. If you have a copy you should friend me up. I’m at: 2750-1831-2473. I was able to play it when it first came out thanks to Brian, and I can say that it’s a Wii game that’s getting me excited about the Wii again. It makes me want to get Metroid and Mario Galaxy. I know I know…they’ve been out for a while. But I just haven’t been in the “gaming mood”.

At any rate, I think I might pick up some Zipang Sake, if I can track it down. Or maybe some more wine and play Doug online tonight. Marcie fake promised that she’d come over last night with her sister to play my newly acquired game. She definitely kept her promise. Someday…

Ok, is anyone else feeling the wrath of allergies? Aaaachooo!

Update: My friends at the Edina liquor store informed me that they in fact have Zipang Sake. Bring the pain allergies!
